Understanding Hair Transplants: Your Guide to a Fuller Head of Hair

Hair loss can be a challenging experience, affecting your self-esteem and overall confidence. If you’re exploring solutions, a hair transplant might be the answer you’ve been looking for. We’ll dive into what hair transplants are, the different techniques available at MERAKI , and what you can expect from the process.

What Is

Hair Transplant?

A hair transplant is a surgical procedure that moves hair follicles from a part of your body (usually the back of the scalp) to areas experiencing hair loss or thinning. The goal is to restore a fuller and more natural-looking head of hair. It’s a popular solution for individuals dealing with male or female pattern baldness, thinning hair, or other types of hair loss.

How Hair Transplant Works?

On the day of the FUE hair transplant procedure, it will be performed under a local anaesthetic. The hair grafts are then harvested from the donor area at the back of the head one by one. No stitches are required. Each graft naturally occurs with one, two or three hair follicles which are then prepared and transplanted to the thinning or balding area. The new hairs are implanted individually and at the correct angle to mimic the direction of your own hair.

For the first couple of nights after surgery, you will be required to sleep with your head elevated on several pillows or in a recliner chair. This will help reduce swelling. Avoid strenuous physical activity during the first week to prevent elevated blood pressure.

No direct sun exposure, alcohol or smoking during the first two weeks as this will delay healing and damage the grafts.

We recommend a few days off from work to allow time to recover. Swelling may be visible for up to 2-5 days whilst healing.

Recovery time is minimal. As there are no stitches healing is quick and can take up to 2 weeks for the tiny scabs to clear completely,

The procedure is typically performed under local anesthesia, so you won’t feel pain, though you may experience some discomfort and swelling afterward.

Approximately three months later (90 to 100 days), new hair starts to grow and continues to grow at a normal rate. About six months after a hair transplant session, the transplanted hairs begin to take on a natural appearance and will continue to grow for a lifetime.
